What is a Credit Report?

Consumers often find themselves overwhelmed by the extensive amount of information contained in their credit reports, as it is not uncommon for these reports to span 30 pages or more.

The reports typically commence with a summary of personal details, including name, addresses, telephone numbers, date of birth, social security number, and employers.

Following this, you will come across information pertaining to specific accounts that are being reported. Each account, referred to as a tradeline by the Credit Bureaus, will have an introductory section providing the company name, truncated account number, status, balances, and scheduled payments. A comprehensive payment history, consisting of various shorthand codes, will then be presented.

In the event that any reported information appears to be inaccurate, you will also find the address of the furnisher within the tradeline. It is important to utilize this address when submitting a formal dispute along with any supporting documents that may be available. It is crucial to provide a clear and thorough explanation of the inaccuracy, as failure to do so may result in the mark not being properly updated.
